The Orange County Society of Ophthalmology (OCSO) is a component of the Orange County Medical Association and the California Medical Association. It is a non-profit voluntary organization, was founded in the early 1960's. It is designed to promote the science and art of ophthalmology, the protection of public health, and the betterment of the profession. The membership of OCSO is composed of physicians holding a medical degree and trained in the subspecialty of ophthalmology. All members are required to be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
The OCSO website provides patients and their families with high quality information and links to other sites that meet the high standards of the physicians who comprise the organization. OCSO also helps patients locate an ophthalmologist in their area who provides the type of care they are seeking.
One of the most important goals of the society is to provide an educational forum for physicians in which new technology, techniques, and scientific knowledge are presented and discussed. The types of activities offered include quarterly general membership meetings with guest lecturers. Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities are planned based on demonstrated, expressed, or presumed needs. For these activities, the Executive Committee oversees the needs assessment, educational objectives, and activity evaluation; reviewing CME evaluation results to assure that members are offered timely, appropriate educational content. The members are encouraged to keep in contact with each other, exchange clinical information, and stay current with environmental changes in the medical profession which affect us all.
